Somerset is famed for its orchards and especially across the Levels and Moors. Many of these are traditional cider apple varieties with their origins in Somerset such as Somerset Redstreak and Yarlington Mill.

Desert apples (for eating and cooking) are also grown on the Levels and available at a variety of markets throughout the autumn and winter months.

Walnuts have been historically associated with the Levels for over 500 years. They thrive in these wetlands and many are self-seeded, producing a variable crop year to year. Over the past few years over 350 new walnut trees have been planted to increase the supply of walnuts for Levels' Best products.

Walnut oil, pickled or spiced walnuts are produces under the Levels' Best banner. Walnut oil has a distinctive nutty flavour and in rich in omega 3 fatty acids. The nuts truly healthy as they are full of fibre and vitamins E, B6, B9 and A.

Walnuts have been part of the Park's economy for at least 500 years. As part of the restoration plan of the farm, we planted 300 young walnut trees in 2004 along side the old ones still standing. Walnuts are high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids and are said to reduce cholesterol.
