Just as with the pork, you can be sure that when you buy Levels' Best poultry – chicken, duck, turkey and goose – it is free range and reared to high animal welfare standards. Every day they roam grasslands, scratching for insects, able to stretch their wings and have a dust bath just when they want to. At dusk they return to their sheds where they perch at their own free will.

A key feature of Levels' Best is that it supports native breeds of all livestock and birds. Among the British Isles breeds on the Levels are Light Sussex, Rhode Island Red, Wellsummer and Maran.

Levels' Best eggs too are guaranteed to be from hens that have roamed freely all their lives. This produces an egg with a rich yellow yolk and will never be more than a day old when sold. If you particularly want organic eggs, they are available from Black Rock hens at Glebe Farm Pitney and sold in the Pitney Farm Shop and Sue's Pantry in Langport.
