Levels' Best beef is guaranteed to be one of the distinctive British Isles native breeds. The most popular breed on the Levels is the Devon – better known as the Ruby Red – indigenous to neighbouring North Devon. You can also be sure that Levels' Best beef has grazed the natural grasslands of the Levels and fed home-grown feed during the winter months.
There is now scientific proof that grass-fed beef produces healthy red meat full of Omega 3 unsaturated fats that are the same as produced by fish, rather than the harmful saturated fats that are associated with cattle fed in cereals.
Although Devon cattle are the predominant breed on the Levels there are also Welsh Black, Aberdeen Angus and White Park – the most ancient hardy breed of British cattle.
