Somerset Orchards was formed by a group of cider orchard owners, some of whom have been pressing their own apple juice for years. Blind tastings of single variety cider apples were held to choose which to juice and people genuinely found them a refreshing change from the cloying sweetness of the typical supermarket blend. They were surprised that their expectations of a bitter taste was quite wrong: in fact it is full and fruity with a definite and delightful cider zing in the after taste. It's full of antioxidants and other natural health-giving properties.
We are very keen to expand membership and will shortly be announcing a Consultancy service to owners of dilapidated orchards wanting to restore them and those who need help planning a new orchard.
NEWS: Because of the interest we have received from Waitrose, we are urgently looking now for new suppliers of the two varieties, especially Kingston Black, and will pay a generous price.
